The Florida State Guardianship Association remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing excellence in guardianship education. Join us for our 6th Annual Symposium, featuring four distinguished professionals for an engaging, three-hour educational program designed to address important issues affecting Florida’s guardianship community.
Attend in person at the Florida State University Alumni Center in Tallahassee or participate virtually via Zoom from anywhere in the state. Continuing education credits will be available for guardians, attorneys, clinical social workers, marriage and family therapists, and mental health counselors.

Fraud and Financial Exploitation of Older Adults
Dr. Julie Brancale is an Assistant Professor in Florida State University’s College of Criminology and Criminal Justice and Co-Director of the Aging Adult Fraud Research and Policy Institute.
Dr. Thomas G. Blomberg is the Dean and Sheldon L. Messinger Professor of Criminology at Florida State University’s College of Criminology and Criminal Justice, where he is internationally recognized for his research and leadership.
Navigating the Baker Act: Statutory Frameworks and Crisis Intervention in Florida
Amanda VanLaningham is the Assistant Secretary for the Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health at the Florida Department of Children and Families, where she oversees Florida’s behavioral health system, including mental health and substance use treatment services, crisis response, recovery programs, and state mental health treatment facilities
Florida’s Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia Infrastructure
Cari Eyre is the Statewide Dementia Director for the Florida Department of Elder Affairs, where she leads initiatives supporting individuals living with dementia and their families and caregivers, drawing on nearly 20 years of experience in direct care, healthcare systems, community health, and program development.
